HTC Officially Launches Desire X for Rs. 19,799
HTC has officially announced the launch of its Desire X smartphone in India. Priced at Rs. 19,799 (MOP), the HTC Desire X runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system and is powered by a 1 GHz dual-core processor.
The HTC Desire X, recently spotted on various online retailers features :
- 4.0-inch capacitive touch screen
- 800 X 480 pixels
resolution.
- 5MP auto focus camera of the Desire X is
powered by the company's proprietary ImageChip, and features a f/2.0,

Google Expands Gmail Field Trial Adds Drive and Calendar
Google is now testing the customised search feature for Gmail users, who can now search across a range of Google products from a single search box. Users willing to participate in the trial should visit the updated field trial page and select Join the field trial. It's notable the trial is only available in English and for @gmail.com addresses, not available on Google Apps accounts.
In Gmail, as you begin to type into the search box, you'll instantly start seeing relevant emails from Gmail as well as results from Google Drive, Google Calendar, and more. "When you're looking for something, you should be able to find what you need quickly and easily without needing to think about where it might be, whether it's in your email or out on the public web," Google software engineer, Bram Moolenaar, said in a blog post on Monday.
FBI Warns of Malware Targeting Android Phones
The FBI‘s Internet Crime Complaint Center is warning smartphone users of malware that targets Android operating systems. “The malicious application steals contact details from the user’s address book and the infected device’s phone number.”
“Loozon” and “FinFisher” are the latest known versions of this type of malware, according to the IC3, which investigates Internet-related criminal complaints. The organization is a partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Nation White Collar Crime Center.
The malware lures victims in different ways. One advertises itself as a “work at home” opportunity that promises a lucrative payday just for sending out email; an attached link then leads to a website that spreads Loozon to its target, IC3 says in a release.
FinFisher is spyware that can take over parts of a mobile device; when installed, phones can be “remotely controlled and monitored no matter where the target is located,” IC3 says. FinFisher can easily be transmitted to a smartphone when the victim visits a hyperlink or opens a text message that masquerades as a system update.
RailRadar: Now Track Location of 6,500 Trains on Real-Time Basis
The Centre for Railway Information Service (CRIS) has announced a new web application called RailRadar, which allows users to access location of a train on Map and track movements of trains on a real-time basis. The new RailRadar service is considered to be an improved version of the earlier tracking system ‘Spot Your Train’.
The RailRadar application has been jointly developed by CRIS and RailYatri team (Stelling Technologies) and users can access it at railradar.trainenquiry.com. The app will help users find the exact geographical location of 6,500 passenger trains of the Indian Railways on Google Maps on a real time basis. Users can also access RailRadar service from their mobile phones, via the device's browser.

On the top right, there's a display that shows the number of trains tracked at that point of time, and percentage of trains that are on their schedule. Trains that are on time are shown in blue, while the late ones are shown in red. Logitech to Launch Windows 8 Devices
Logitech has already announced a trio of accessories to compliment the upcoming OS, the first two being mice and the third a trackpad.
The first of the trio is the Touch Mouse T620, which sports striking resemblance in design to the M600 mouse. However, the two differ in the fact that the T620 supports Windows 8 gestures. The T620’s surface is all glass which will allow the entire surface to be used for gestures like swipe the right side for the Charm Bar, or swipe from the left to rotate through open programs. Double tapping with a finger takes you to the Start Screen while a two-fingered double tap exhibits the desktop.
The second mouse is the Zone Touch Mouse T400 which has a touch sensitive strip. The touch strip is good for scrolling pages and live tiles on the home screen, but thanks to the two incorporated buttons, they can be used to launch specific apps or bring up the start screen.
The last of the trio, Touchpad T650, is a wireless, rechargeable touchpad with generous real estate made of glass. Again, this is to support all gestures built into Windows 8.
Dish TV Launches Lifetime Free Basic Channels Pack, Gears Up For Ddigitization
Dish TV has announced that it will offer a basic channel pack free for all users who shift to their service from an existing cable TV connection in the four metro cities. The pack is called Lifetime Free TV. The new initiative comes just before the digitization deadline, which is set to be implemented on 1st November 2012.
Under the new offer, all new users will be able to access 70 channels free for a lifetime, even if the balance goes down to Rs 0 in their account. There will be 70 channels as a part of this package, across various genres - Hindi GEC, Hindi movies, music, devotional, lifestyle, news and regional. As a rule, all DD channels will be offered within this package. However, no High Definition (HD) channels will be offered as a part of this pack. However, the fine-print of this offer is that users will have to recharge with Rs. 200 minimum once every 6 months.
The Digitization of cable television networks is set to be implemented from 1st November 2012 across the four metro cities. All users subscribing to a cable service will need to buy a set top box to be able to view channels, regardless of whether the channel is paid or free to air from the broadcaster end.

Sony India introduces Personal 3D Viewer HMZ-T2 at Rs. 69,990
Sony has officially launched its Personal 3D Viewer HMZ-T2 in India for Rs. 69,990. The head-mounted gear, which looks straight out of 90's sci-fi movies, is already available for pre-order at select Sony Experience Stores.
The Personal 3D Viewer HMZ-T2 comes with a bundled HDMIU cable and can be attached to any device with an HDMI out, be it an XBOX 360, a DVD/BLU-RAY Player or even a receiver. Interestingly, Sony has removed the built-in ear buds that the previous model shipped with, and swapped it out for a regular 3.5mm audio-out jack, making it easy for the user to use any headphone with the unit. The content being played was 1280x720p, which is the T2’s native display resolution. The screens have a tru-cinematic 24p mode that will allow very smooth playback of 2D and 3D content.
We got to hear the audio over regular Sony in-the-ear buds and even at 1/4th the volume, the content sounded quite impressive. We turned on the virtual surround mode, but didn’t really notice much of a difference. The Personal 3D Viewer HMZ-T2 is up for pre-order at select Sony Experience Stores with an expected shipping date of sometime mid-November.
Samsung Officially Unveils the Galaxy S III Mini
Samsung officially unveiled the Galaxy S III Mini at an event in
Germany. The smartphone is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of
RAM, a 4-inch Super AMOLED display (800x480 pixels) and will come with
Android Jelly Bean once it ships. The Galaxy S III Mini
will come with 16GB internal storage and a memory card for expansion.
No word yet on the pricing of the S III Mini, but global availability is
expected to coincide with the Christmas shopping rush.
Compared to the Galaxy S III,
the Mini does away with the quad core power for a dual-core processor.
The camera also sees a downgrade from 8MP to 5MP. Some markets globally
will also feel the lack of LTE connectivity. The Galaxy S III Mini carries forward the S-Voice, Smart Stay, Direct Call and S Beam feature from the Galaxy S III.
We believe this smartphone will be a very good option to consider, if
Samsung prices it right. On paper, this is an ideal phone to compete in
the Rs. 19,000 – Rs. 23,000 price bracket, competing with the likes of
the HTC One V and the Sony Xperia P.
Microsoft Office 2013 Release To Manufacturers
Microsoft Office 2013 has received the push to Release To Manufacturing stage. Office 2013, just like Windows 8,
is a daring and ambitious effort from the Redmond crew, which is a ways
departure from what we have come know the Office Suite to be.
Office 2013 will include the entire host of Office applications,
along with cloud services, and servers. The most notable feature,
however, is the fact that it has been optimized for touch input, making
it easy to use even on tablets. Another nifty feature of the new Office
suite is its integration with SkyDrive, Microsoft’s own cloud storage
solution which will allow the user to access any documents from anywhere
on the planet, provided they have internet access.
If you’re an MSDN or TehNet subscriber, the final version of Office
should be available for download sometime mid-November. For the regular
mortals out there, the final version of Office will be hitting store
shelves sometime in the first quarter of 2013.
Dropbox Updated with a New Photos Tab for Android
Dropbox has rolled out an update to its native app for Android with more focus on the media-related features. The update v2.2 brings a new Photos Tab features inside the app. The tab allows users to check out the thumbnail of uploaded images, and videos.
The update comes shortly after Dropbox rolled out an update for its mobile site, adding new image galleries. The company has of late given more emphasis on media content, especially the photos.Dropbox's last round of updates for its Android app brought in automatic image upload capability, direct to the user’s Dropbox account. The update enabled users to choose if they’d prefer automatically uploading via mobile data or Wi-Fi, or, just Wi-Fi.
