Data Centre Security to be a Top Concern for 2014: McAfee


McAfee recent report on trends, which will dominate the security industry in India in the near future, states that data centers will have to make security their prime concern to combat advanced malware threats. US-based McAfee said in a report, "Data centres are the nerve centre of an organisation making data centre security a top priority for most companies today." The report added that the limits between virtual and physical are blurring as organisations are moving towards next generation data centers.

The report highlighted that organisations have to move from single security solution for issues like bring your own device (BYOD) to other solutions available. The report states that companies need to adopt advanced threat defense solutions to respond to attacks faster and move from analysis to protection and resolution.
"BYOD needs to be looked at from different dimensions like data loss prevention, network access control, internal intrusion prevention systems, authentication system, internal firewalls, securing Wi-Fi etc," it added. The report added that Indian SMB's like chartered accountants, law firms have a greater chance of cyber attacks. These small businesses have less secure systems due to lack of budgets and knowledge and are more prone to cyber attacks.

A previous report McAfee Labs Threats for Third Quarter 2013, stated that there has been a massive increase in Ransomware. The report added that there has been more threats in the first half of 2013 than all previous incidents combined. McAfee reported more than 700,000 new malware in Q3,2013 an increase of 35 percent.

Bharti Airtel Offers Free Facebook Access in 9 Regional Languages


Bharti Airtel is now offering free Facebook access in as many as nine regional languages to its prepaid customers in India - Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. As a limited period offer, Airtel is offering free access Facebook with a cap of 30 MB/ month.

Existing mobile Internet users on Airtel can access the Facebook mobile site on m.facebook.com. Customers accessing the mobile internet for the first time will have to register at m.facebook.com to avail of this special offer. Airtel says the language support is compatible with all major platforms including Java, Android, iOS and Windows devices.

Twitter has announced an in-depth list of Trending topics in India this year mapping conversations of over 20 million Twitter users in India. Twitter released the data in topics categorised neatly in Events, News, Politics, Cricket, Bollywood and TV.

In Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan got the most tweets at #WeLoveSRK with his hit Chennai Express this year. In “News” and “Politics” sections #AfzalGuru and BJP's Prime Minister candidate #Modi were the most discussed people on the social networking site.

Facebook Finally Gets a Dislike Button in Messenger


Facebook has updated its messenger app with new line of stickers that also includes a dislike button. The dislike option is available for mobile and desktop versions of Facebook messenger for now. Users can access the new sticker pack from the sticker shop inside the messenger app.

Facebook's dislike button has been much requested by users, while the social media site won’t bring it to comments and status updates. The button for now is available for messenger users.

The Like button is “the quickest way for people to share content with their friends,” as Facebook states on its developers page. It can also work for Facebook to learn what users like and serve relevant ads based on it.

Whatsapp Now Has 400 Million Monthly Active Users


WhatsApp has announced its instant messaging app now has more than 400 million monthly active users with with 100 million active users added in the last four months alone. The popular instant messaging app allows users to send free messages, photos, videos and audio messages to people on your mobile contact list. The app is available for free for iPhone, Windows Phone, Android, and BlackBerry.

WhatsApp users send more than 16 billion messages every day, receive 32 billion and send 500 million images every day, the company revealed in a blog post. That's much more than Snapchat , which gets 400 million images per pay. Co-founder Jan Koum stated in a blog post, " We are excited to have reached 400 million monthly active users and even more excited to have achieved this without spending a dollar on targeted ads or big marketing campaigns. We’re here because of all the people who share their WhatsApp stories with co-workers, friends, and loved ones – stories we love to hear."

WhatsApp's closest competitor is messaging app Line which has 300 million registered users, followed by WeChat which has about 270 million users.

Sony PS4 Launched in India for Rs. 39,999

 

Sony has finally launched its latest console – PlayStation 4 – in the country. Priced at Rs. 39,999, the Sony PlayStation4 comes with a wide range of new and improved features. Pricing of the new games for the PS4 start at Rs. 3,499. Sony's PlayStation 4 has so far met with great excitement across the world. As of December 1, 2013, Sony has sold 2.1 million PS4 units consoles worldwide since the launch in the US on November 15.

Google India has released the top 10 trending YouTube videos in India in 2013. The list called 'YouTube Rewind: What India watched in 2013', includes movie trailers, popular TV shows and cricket. Trailers of Krrish 3, Dhoom 3 and Telegu short film titled Viva top the charts.

Indians watched the Krrish 3 trailer 19 million times making it the top trending video in 2013. Comedy Nights with Kapil was the most watched TV show on YouTube, followed by Top 10 catches in cricket history, MTV roadies and made for web content ‘Gangs of social media’ kept the viewers glued to the screen.

Most watched music videos were 'Jeene Laga Hoon' from the film Ramaiya Vastavaiya, sung by Atif Aslam and Shreya Ghoshal. The video secured the top place with more than 15 million views this year.

The movie X-Men: Days of Future Past was the most watched Hollywood trailer, recording more than 22 million views. For kids content, HooplaKidz which show nursery rhymes and stories for children topped the list of top kids channel securing more than 8 lakh subscribers.
