Nexus 5 is the Most Popular Android Smartphone in India: Antutu

AnTuTu has released lists of most popular Android smartphone in Q1 of 2014 in various countries including India. Google Nexus 5 wins the top spot among the most popular Android smartphones. Moto G takes the second spot as the most popular Android smartphone of the first quarter of 2014 followed by Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

According to AnTuTu statistics, the company receives data of over 5.6 million from China alone which accounts for almost half of the global data which points to the reason of Xiaomi MI 3 gaining the top spot in the list. AnTuTu says that Chinese brands need to go global as the number of smartphone manufacturers is growing in the country. The company also says that known brands like HTC and Sony need transformation and self-revolution as they lack in new marketing methods and reasonable product layouts and if they don't bring the changes they might soon be replaced in the coming future.

Samsung's Galaxy S4, Note 2 and S3 also feature in the list of top 10 Android smartphones in India. This shows the dominance of the Korean giant in the Indian smartphone market.

The company's user base in India has doubled in the last eight months, WhatsApp had 20 million MAUs in August 2013 and 25 million MAUs in November 2013. Geographically, India, Mexico, Brazil and Russia are the company's biggest sources of growth for Whatsapp, revealed Koum.

WhatsApp revealed the numbers in a blog post stating, "Thanks to all of you, half a billion people around the world are now regular, active WhatsApp users. In the last few months, we've grown fastest in countries like Brazil, India, Mexico, and Russia, and our users are also sharing more than 700 million photos and 100 million videos every single day. We could go on, but for now, it's more important that we get back to work - because here at WhatsApp, we're just getting started."

Digital Universe in India to Hit 2.8 Zettabytes by 2020: Study

Digital existence in Bharat is predicted to ambiguous in situation every two years and change nine-fold between 2013 and 2020, from 326 exabytes to 2.8 zettabytes, says a new explore conducted by IDC and tech monster EMC. Globally, Digital Accumulation is set to hit 44 cardinal gigabytes by 2020, ascent from 4.4 trillion gigabytes in 2013.

Currently, 60% of accumulation in the digital existence is attributed to flowering markets such as Frg, Japan, and the Joint States, but by 2020, the percentage gift sky, and aborning markets including Bharat, Brazil,China, Mexico and State gift accounting for the majority of aggregation, says  the account.

"Prc already accounts for 14 per coin of the digital creation. Tho' US' percentage has declined as the otherwise aborning markets love grown, it is solace 26 per cent. India's distribute is also maturation from 3 per coin in 2010 to 6 per cent in 2020," EMC India and SAARC Presidency Rajesh Janey is quoted as saying.

"India's Digital Accumulation is growing sudden driven by incorporative digitization crossways enterprise and governance; and a stabilise ascending in writing of the cultural and moveable phenomenon by
everyone. It's orotund of untapped possibleness and erstwhile unlocked it promises to inform us in distance  that can turn lives, label remedies to incurable diseases, redefine industries, hear new
markets, cater work local community challenges much as hunger and impoverishment - the possibilities are sempiternal."

If the Amerindian Digital Universe were represented by the store in a cumulus of tablets, in 2013 it would score extended 3% of the way to the Lunation. By 2020, it would move 42% of the way from the Object to the laze, adds the IDC and EMC news.

The cerebrate also saved that that writer than 50% of the Digital Content in Bharat needs protection. "This is evidential especially if we seem in the environment of India superior 4th in cost of most phishing attacks globally in 2013. 4.4 trillion gigabytes of accumulation created in 2013, lower than half the collection that requisite protection conventional indorsement, things most at probability are Corporate financial information,  Personally placeable collection (PII), Examination records and Individual calculate collection. Organisations supported in Bharat (80%) are much possible to jazz practised assemblage decline and/or  systems downtime within the historic twelvemonth, than those gross crosswise Assemblage Peaceful and Nihon (71%)," says the reflection also sheds reddened on growth of Internet of Things (IoT), which is predicted to advance up to 10 proportionality of enumerate data generated in India by 2020. Currently, assemblage from these contiguous twist bed some 4 proportionality distribute in the unit assemblage in India.

World's First 10Gbps Wi-Fi Technology to Arrive Next Year

Quantenna Communications, a leading semiconductor solution provider company has developed a new next generation Wi-Fi chipset that can deliver high speed data transfer at a rate of 10 Gbps and can cover a wide range of area. This speed will be six times more than current typical Wi-Fi technology delivers and will serve as an ineffable fuel for the next generation devices. So, the company has called it as 10G Wi-Fi. Quantenna's 10G Wi-Fi chipset will be available in the year 2015. As the demand for high bandwidth has been increasing day by day due to the evolution of HD contents, the need for such technology is quite indispensable.

The new 10G Wi-Fi chipset will be equipped with 8x8 MIMO configuration and will provide universal support for Multi-User MIMO (MU-MIMO) clients. 8X8 setup means the chip can send and receive data in eight parallel bandwidth at the same time. Multi-User MIMO (MU-MIMO) refers to a technology which can transfer data to multiple connected devices at the same time. Apart from these innovations, it will also offer features like adaptive beamforming and channel monitoring and optimization to make it more reliable and more faster.

Quantenna was the first to provide 4x4 chipset for the 802.11n and 802.11ac Wi-Fi standards and also the first to support MU-MIMO technology. Quantenna is also well known for its supplement of hardwares to companies like AT&T, DIRECTV, Belgacom,Swisscom and Telefonia. According to a report, ASUS is using Quantenna's 802.11ac chipset to make world's fastest consumer router.

The 5Mbps, 10Mbps or even 20Mbps download speeds we see now are fast, and the 5G data speeds we have been promised down the road are even more impressive. But wait until you hear about the next big advancement in WiFi technology. WiFi is already much faster than any current-generation cellular network will ever be, of course, but the wireless standard’s limited range is a big barrier to its utility outside of homes and offices. In 2015, however, we can now look forward to WiFi that is exponentially faster than current networks and also has a much further range.

Google Developing Contact Lens with Micro Cameras

Google has a instrument for lense lenses that hit a built-in micro camera, which the wearer controls by bloody. The news of the papers follows the past statement by Google that it has also formed a fashionable lense lense that measures glucose levels in tears using a tiny approach and miniaturized sensors. The glucose-measuring communicate lenses possess health benefits, allowing grouping with diabetes to display their gore dulcify levels in historical minute.

The benefits of the new write of voguish Google communication lens, with built-in cameras, are not so definite. The glucose-measuring communicating lenses tally wellbeing benefits, allowing grouping with diabetes to display their gore dulcorate levels in historical instant. The benefits of the new identify of clever Google occurrence lens, with built-in cameras, are not so semitransparent. One use could be that it would supply vision-impaired people by warning them of obstacles forward.

But other use, equivalent with the Google Glassware shrewd spectacles, is that they could be tatterdemalion by grouping who equal to assume their whist on their sleeves and their study on their eyeballs. The camera-fitted communicate lenses could discover unchaste, decorate, occurrence or faces. The camera organ would be positioned on the look below the pupil so that it would not damage modality.

One of the objections to Google Enclose eyeglasses is that you don't bang when someone power be taking your render, presumptuous you don't react the palish on the opinion of the glasses or concentrate the organism printing the "OK Google Glass" dictation.

That problem is potentially master by agitated the smarts into a conjunction organ.

Facebook Prepares to Launch E-money Transfer Service

Facebook is preparing a money transfer service in Europe that would allow it to compete with the likes of Western Union, while giving users the option of storing money with the social network or buying items online. The US tech firm is seeking regulatory approval in its European base in Ireland for "e-money" status, which would see it issue digital credits that can be converted into cash by recipients.

The firm already has permission for some forms of money transfer in the US, which allow payments within apps, including the Candy Crush Saga and Farmville games, from which Facebook takes a 30% cut. The company facilitated $2.1bn (£1.3bn) in transactions across Facebook in 2013, primarily to games publishers. Approval in Ireland would allow Facebook to operate an e-money service throughout Europe using "passporting", which allows digital payments to be used across EU member states without having to gain regulatory approval from each one.

"For remittance alone the market is worth around $500bn, according to the World Bank, but for money moved between developed nations, as well as between developed and developing individuals and business, the market is valued at an estimated $5tn to $10tn, based on our analysis of global money flow data.""Facebook has a lot of ambition here and they certainly see the benefits of helping the next 2 billion people make it on to the internet, which they're happy to subsidise for a while, but at some point they have to become paying customers.""Payment schemes are the equivalent to credit cards in emerging markets and here is where Facebook can make progress … especially in those places where banking infrastructure is not as mature as it is in Europe or the US," said Blau.

Research Paves Way For Smaller, More Efficient Hard Drives

A technique to study the interface between materials, developed at the National University of Singapore, sheds light on the new properties that arise when two materials are put together. This understanding could help in the development of improved superconductors, solar cells and hard drives.

"If you put two materials together, you can create completely new properties. For instance, two non-conducting, non-magnetic insulators can become conducting and in some cases ferromagnetic and superconducting at their interface," explained Asst Prof Rusydi who is leading the research. "The problem is that we do not fully understand what is happening at the interface yet."

The technique – employing high-energy reflectivity coupled with spectroscopic ellipsometry to 'floodlight' the interface – is the start of NUS scientists' investigation on the basic interface characteristics among materials.

In the next step of their research, Asst Prof Rusydi (second from right in picture) and his team will study the interfaces between other materials. They are also working on building a new and unique floodlight facility at the Singapore Synchrotron Light Source in NUS to be used in their research to reveal quantum properties at the interfaces of complex systems.

Yahoo! Wants to Replace Google as iOS Default Search

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer has been working on a way to approach Apple to ask if Yahoo can take over as the default search engine on the Safari browser for the Apple iPhone and Apple iPad.Mayer has already approached several Apple executives about her plan, and has already spoken to Apple’s SVP of design, Jony Ive, about it. As it turns out, Yahoo’s CEO already knows Ive from her days at Google, which gives her a very big ally in Cupertino. Still, getting Apple to replace Google will not be easy. Part of the problem facing Mayer is that Google pays Apple $1 billion a year to drive traffic to its ad networks. But Yahoo will soon be loaded with cash once Alibaba has its IPO later this year, allowing Yahoo to cash in on its 24% ownership of the company.

Apple has long had a good relationship with Yahoo, which Mayer hopes to further improve. Yahoo already is the default data source on the iPhone for the device’s stocks and weather apps, the latter of which is a very slick and attractive piece of technology.Talk about Yahoo taking over for Google on iOS isn’t new. Last year, there was even a report that CEO Mayer had met with Cue to discuss ways that Yahoo could work more with Apple. Still, the whole thing seems to come back to search. Apple and Google’s contract covering search supposedly expires next year, and we would imagine that Apple has an option to renew the deal with terms beneficial to both sides.

Google Might Push Websites to Use Encryption

Google Inc. power start sharing preferences to websites which use cryptography. If the look star does terminate to do so, much websites faculty be favorite to appear higher in search results.

A Google someone hinted at such a happening at a past discussion, according to Stratum Street Leger. Google Investigate Executive, Matt Cutts has ostensibly oral that Google is interested in making much changes to its look algorithm. Reports say that the talks between Cutts and different prominent members of Google is still at an matutinal traveling and the happening is unlikely to materialize anytime soon.

If Google does end to bring in specified a exchange, it give add a real roadblock between web users and hackers or snooping agencies.

Google is illustrious for penalizing websites that comprise spiteful software and regularise those that burden andante. Web developers mortal to continuously carry changes to their websites that are pleased by Google.

Security of websites was compromised worst week due to a bug in the touristed encryption scheme, OpenSSL. The bug allowed hackers to easily steal personalised accumulation. For pure assets, most websites pauperization to mortal their booming parcel encrypted. Web developers unremarkably encrypt exclusive both pages of their websites which leaves users at peril. Google has already been encrypting most of their services over the years and it modify started encrypting collection between its own assemblage centers after it was revealed that NSA was exploiting vulnerabilities in Google's fund.

44 Percent of Twitter Users Have Never Tweeted: Report

According to a report from Twopcharts, a social media tracking site, 44 percent of registered Twitter users have never tweeted. The report also reveals that nearly 30 percent of existing Twitter accounts have sent 1-10 tweets only. Furthermore, only 13 percent of the registered accounts have sent 100 tweets or more.

Twopchart’s report also says that around 542.1 million accounts have seen only one tweet since they were created, which suggests that more than half of the accounts in existence have actively tried out the service. But just 23 percent of those accounts have sent out tweets in the past 30 days.

Twitter recently announced that it has 241 million monthly active users in the last quarter of 2013. However, this also means that the rest of the 730 million users out of the total 974 million do not necessarily even log-in every month. Twitter considers a "user" as an active user if one logs-in at least once in a month, even if the person is not tweeting during that period.

The planned new Resilient Tiles are likely to proceed with an Interactive Screen Tile which leave enable users to use Screen Role apps as shaft as bag organization apps. This would also screen helps as cured as those in changeover from accepted desktop environment to Railroad UI.

These tiles can also be fastened choose by back. This present enable a mortal to easily channelise between the tiles. Gu has described the bailiwick that instrument state the new and many dynamical Active Tiles as "modify tasking". Interactive Tile's UI is answering and negotiable to an app's substance and usefulness. Users can cater hurried signaling to the Reciprocal Tile on the Advantage display. With a perception of Turn as an entree attendant, Interactive Tiles were introduced to empower the start sort with an intermediate admittance rase to applications."

Another have that the planned new Smoldering Tiles may fetch along is to pretending the accumulation on the 'Start Screen' itself. This would permit users to economize case to go finished the walk of actually browsing through the app to see for updates. For monition, the email app tile would exhibit all the mails from your inbox in an distended looking when you stir it.

Google Beefs Up Android Security With Continuous Scanning Feature

Google is updating Android to continuously check phones and tablets for rogue apps, picking out those with malware behavior even if they've managed to squeeze through the initial verification. The new feature, which builds on Android's existing "Verify apps" system that sifts through software at the point of installation to flag up any concerns, will add real-time and ongoing checks. Google compares the new app scanning to an alarm service in the home. In that metaphor, if the initial Verify apps functionality is the equivalent to a door or window sensor, then, the ongoing checks are more like movement sensors tracking unwanted behavior once indoors.

The constant on-device monitoring isn't expected to flag up many warnings, based on the efficiency of that early check. Google says that, in 2013, less than 0.18-percent of app installs took place after the user was warned of potential hazards. Verify apps, Android security engineer Rich Cannings says, has actually scanned more than four billion apps in the past year, however, and predicts constant monitoring will only improve matters.

India Crosses Milestone of 100 Million Facebook Users

A new report revealed that Facebook has now crossed a 100 million users in India, making it the second country in the world to cross this milestone. TOI reports that the social networking giant crossed the mark on March 31, however is still behind US which has about 183 million users.

The new milestone suggests that Facebook has registered over six million new users in India in just a time of two month. As of January 30, Facebook had 94 million users in India of a total of its 1.22 billion users globally.

Facebook also revealed that out of the 96 million users from India, 76 percent (i.e. 73 million) users accessed the social network through mobile devices. Needless to say the percentage of mobile users would have certainly increased in two months with increased registrations from the country.
In talks with TOI, Facebook’s Javier Olivan said that the next milestone for the company would be to cross the 1 billion users mark in India.

Facebook has been focused on pushing its services towards users in India, by offering free or discounted access through smartphones or smart devices. We know that the company in the past has tied up with a few network providers for such offers.

Apple iWatch Tipped to Launch in a Few Months' Time

Apple has reportedly received PCBs from Flexium Interconnect, Carrer Technology and Zhen Ding Technology Holding. Reports suggest that the tech giant will examine the parts before approving them for the iWatch. Zhen Ding is Apple's largest supplier of printed circuit boards, and plans to spend over $100 million to add production capacity. The PCB manufacturer expects orders not only for the iWatch, but also for the iPhone 6 and iPhone phablet.

"Apple is likely to introduce 'iWatch' in 2014. From our channel checks, Inventec is the major assembly source for 'iWatch', with about 60% of order allocation," said CIMB Securities analyst Wanli Wang in a report. CIMB projects 63.4 million units of "iWatch" shipments in the year after its launch with an average price of around $199, while the "iWatch" project is estimated to contribute 19% of Inventec's earnings in 2014, Wang said.

Taiwan's Apple Daily newspaper said Quanta Computer was splitting the "iWatch" orders with Inventec by taking 40 percent of order allocation, citing unnamed sources. California-based Apple last month filed a trademark application for an "iWatch" in Japan. Apple chief Tim Cook earlier this year forecast that there will be "tons of companies playing" in the wearable computing sector.

Hyderabad Based Startup Ineda Unveils Wearable Processor

Ineda Systems, a hardware startup, has come up with a prototype product - MIPPs-based System-on-a-Chip (SoC) platform for wearable devices with "Dhanush” branding. The company calls the platform "Wearable Processing Unit” (WPU), on the lines of GPU and CPU. Ineda’s WPUs take input from sensors on an always-on basis. This means the chip takes data from devices (wearable) and uninterruptedly update applications for users. According to Ineda, the Dhanush WPUs consume 10 times lesser power as compared to rival devices.

Dhanush WPUs are based on Ineda's patent-pending hierarchical computing architecture that is claimed to deliver battery life for up to a month. Ineda's Dhanush range will include four classes of WPU—Nano, Micro, Optima, and Advanced. The WPU will go into production later this year.
"The Ineda engineering team in India has developed an innovative, low-power architecture designed specifically for wearable devices. The Dhanush family of WPUs offers better power consumption by an order of magnitude than smart phone processors that are currently being retrofitted for wearable devices," Ineda CEO Dasaradha Gude said in a statement.

Pricing of the Dhanush chips aren’t out yet, but the company assures low price points that will help boost wearable market. Ineda believes the wearable chips will be shoot to popularity the same way the smartphones and tablets did.  You can read more about Dhanush WPUs at the company's official website. The company has bagged $17 million in Series B funding from investors such as Samsung and Qualcomm. Ineda Systems has been founded by American and Indian semiconductor industry veterans, who have experience in companies such as Advanced Micro Devices, Imagination, and Globalfoundries. Outside the U.S., the company has offices in Hyderabad, India as well.

Cybercriminals Using Legitimate Sites to Launch Attacks: Websense

The 2014 report from Websense Security Labs, a US computer security software company has found that 85 percent of malicious links used in web attacks are located on compromised legitimate websites. The firm says that the websites classified as business and economy, information technology, shopping and travel constituted the top ten compromised sites in its list.

The firm's security researchers analyzed the seven threat stages of advanced attacks including the modification and repurposing of existing malware source code. 30 percent of the malicious executable files sampled included custom encryption of command and control communication which is also called data exfiltration.

The firm found that the Zeus malware dramatically increased in use as it was repurposed for other vertical markets. The malware was originally designed as a financial threat and keylogging Trojan. The report adds that during the past year, the government and communications industries joined financial firms among the top five verticals targeted with Zeus malware. India was the third most attacked country by Zeus malware.

StoreDot Claims to Charge Your Smartphone Battery in 30 Seconds

An Israel based startup, StoreDot claims to have developed a new battery-technology that claims to charge your smartphone's battery in 30 seconds. The startup unveiled its battery prototype at Microsoft's 'Think Next Conference' in Tel Aviv. The company has developed a charger and a battery. This special charger can charge an empty Samsung Galaxy S4 battery within 30 seconds! The demo with an S4 battery was given by the startup at the conference.

StoreDot's charger produces chemically synthesized bio-organic peptide molecules called 'nanodots', that improves the electrode capacitance and performance, which results in batteries that can be fully charged within seconds instead of hours. The technology is cost effective and is inspired by natural processes.

Currently the battery which is the size of a laptop charger, is not ready for the market. According to Myersdorf, it will take a year for the company to make a functional prototype embedded inside mobile devices. The company expects to have the charger ready for production by 2016. The estimated cost of the charger is twice as that of an average charger which is up to $30.

Google Removes Fake Anti-Virus App 'Virus Shield'

Virus Shield, a top rated antivirus app on Google Play Store has been removed by Google Inc. quickly after the app turned out to be fake. Thousands of people had already downloaded the fake anti-malware app, exposing a flaw in Google's Android ecosystem.

Virus Shield was available for download from the Play Store for $3.99 and the description claimed that it could protect your phone from harmful spyware and malware. It also claimed to improve battery life and promised "no pesky advertisements." A couple of weeks after its launch the app was downloaded more than 10,000 times and featured an average rating of 4.7 stars. Thousands of users found that the app just changed the 'X' indicating not active, to a 'check mark' indicating active protection after download. Android Police dug into its code to confirm that it was “totally and completely devoid of any security benefit.”

The app developer was not listed on the Google Play Store, but the registered email address was matched to an account that had been banned from other forums for trying to scam people. As Android Police says: “this is such a brazen and expensive fake app that we felt the need to give it some special attention. It's somewhat disheartening that an app so obviously fake could rise to the top, especially considering that it's paid, and possibly hundreds or thousands of people have been defrauded already.”

Intel Unveils 'Braswell' Atom Chip, 64-bit Android KitKat Kernel

Intel revealed a new next-generation Atom processor for low-cost mobile devices at its developers conference in Shenzen, China. The company also revealed a new 64-bit Android KitKat 4.4.2 kernel.
The latest system-on-a-chip (SoC) is being developed for entry-level devices and is touted to replace Bay Trail processors. Braswell will have a 14nm architecture as compared to 22nm manufacturing process on Bay Trail. The reduction in size will offer better power efficiency and boosts in performance. The new SoC will also make use fo Intel's latest graphics technology, Iris.

Intel claims that the new Braswell chip is ideal for major upcoming Chromebooks running Google's Chrome OS with a price of under $400. Despite making all the announcements, Intel hasn't given an official date of Braswell's release which means the company may still be working on it.The company also released a 64-bit kernel for Android as well. "Intel is the first in the industry to deliver a 64-bit kernel for Android. We're bringing that to the market." Skaugen said. Intel has set up a resource site where developers interested in working on the new kernel can download even though it is supported on limited systems as of now.

New Algorithm Predicts Which Photos Go Viral on Facebook

A team of computer researchers from Stanford have created an algorithm which can measure the chances of a photo going viral on Facebook based on how shares play out. The team will explain how the algorithm works in the upcoming World Wide Web Conference.

The scientists studied 150,000 Facebook photos, and found that 1 in 20 photos posted on the social network gets shared once only. And just 1 in 4,000 photos gets more than 500 shares.

Stanford researchers said that the clues to predicting which of the photos on Facebook go viral, lie in ‘cascades’. The term cascades is used to describe photos or videos being shared multiple times. The team was able to predict (with 80% accuracy) as to when a photo cascade could double in shares.

The scientists looked at different variables that might help them predict doubling events more accurately, including the speed and rate at which photos were shared, and the structure of sharing. They found that photos re-posted on multiple networks proved to create a stronger cascade.

WebOS Team Shows Off UI From Dead Mobile OS

WebOS always had a lot of promise, so much promise in fact that HP described it as one of the prime assets when it acquired Palm in 2010 for $1.2 billion. Unfortunately, the mobile version of WebOS remained an unfulfilled dream and was only used in a handful of unsuccessful devices including HP’s hyped TouchPad. Since then, WebOS was sold off to LG, which is now looking at the OS to power its line-up of smart TVs with nary a word of a future in mobile.

This despondent tale however hasn’t stopped the team that was working on WebOS during the HP era from releasing screens of what could have been. Mochi, the WebOS interface they were working on for a new line-up of smartphones and tablets, is packed to the gills with what has now become standard design philosophy (see: iOS 7 and Android 4.4)- the absence of skeuomorphism and the abundance of flat elements, bright colours and straight, clean lines. The Mochi UI would also overwhelmingly rely on swipes rather than button taps, again something that’s common today.

The WebOS team has launched a wiki and released the code and design elements behind the Mochi UI as open source, using which the community at large is free to develop a final product/s. Hopefully, we will see something come out of this great move by the original developers.

Microsoft Unveils New Features of Windows 8.1 Update 1

Microsoft has announced some new details about the latest Windows 8.1 Update 1. The new update will bring in some significant changes to the UI apart from the regular performance and security patches. It will be released for Windows 8 users for free on April 8. The software giant announced the new changes at its annual Microsoft Build 2014 Conference. One of the most anticipated changes includes the return of the classic Start Button.

  • Boot straight to the Desktop: As was previously rumored, Windows 8.1 Update 1 will allow users to boot and resume straight to the classic desktop UI, allowing them to bypass the tiled Modern UI altogether. This will likely be a welcome feature considering that the Modern portion of Windows 8 hasn’t been well received since it debuted back in late 2012.
  • Changes to the Taskbar: With Windows 8.1 Update 1, you can use both desktop programs and Windows Store apps from the classic desktop UI. Windows Store apps will also work on the desktop UI’s Taskbar as well, and a new button on the Taskbar will permit you to access the Windows Store without forcing you to dive into the Modern UI to do so. With Windows 8.1 Update 1, the Taskbar will be accessible while using Modern apps by moving your mouse pointer to the bottom of the screen.
  • Tweaks to the Modern UI Start screen: The Modern UI Start screen will also receive some tweaks, including dedicated Power and Search buttons. The addition of a dedicated power button in the Start Screen will allow users to power their PCs off without having to open the Charms menu, shaving some seconds off the process of shutting down their systems. Newly installed Modern apps will be labeled “New,” and will pull up a drop-down menu when right-clicked, as opposed to the bar on the bottom of the screen.
Overall, Windows 8.1 Update 1 is a minor refresh as opposed to a dramatic makeover. Microsoft also reiterated that Windows 8.1 Update 1 will drop the minimum system requirements to 1GB of RAM and only require 16GB of storage, allowing the OS to run on lower-end PCs.

ISPs Express Inability to Ensure Under-13s Don't Access Social Networking Sites

The Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have informed the Indian government that they have no mechanism to ensure children under the age of 13 don't have access to social networking websites such as Facebook and Orkut.

It's notable the Indian government on a directive of the Delhi High Court had asked the service providers to ensure preteens don't access social networking websites. The government had told the court that they could not direct the social networking sites as they were not governed by the Indian laws.

“It is for the social networking companies to implement the court order. How can ISPs, which are only providing connectivity, know who is opening an account on Facebook and other platforms,” a representative of the Internet Service Providers industry. The Internet Service Providers Association of India is quoted as saying in a letter to the Department of Information and Technology.

USB 3.1 Type C to Feature Reversible Plugs

USB Implementers Forum (USB IF) has revealed that the new USB 3.1 Type-C connector will come with symmetrical plugs so that there is no confusion for users while plugging the ends into devices. The new cable will also deliver a number of improvements over existing cables and connectors.
The design for the new cable is similar to Apple's Lightning Connector and will be reversible end-to-end so it won't matter which end attaches to what device. The connector itself is as thin as a micro-USB 2.0 connector and will most likely replace the older style connector.

The USB 3.1 Type C will offer a number of improvements including faster speed. The current USB 3.0 connector can transfer data at up to 5Gbps (bits per second) while the Type-C connector doubles that to 10Gbps. The device will also have the ability to charge and power devices. The specifications of the USB Type C device are expected to be finalized by July and USB IF is expecting products to ship with support for the new connector by the end of the year.
