Apple has announced two new smartphones that will be available later this month. The top-end iPhone 5S and a cheaper iPhone 5C were launched today and will be available to buy in the UK from September 20. The world's most valuable technology company is trying to beat back rivals like Samsung Electronics Co Ltd and Huawei Technologies Co Ltd in markets like India and China, where it is quickly losing ground.


iPhone 5s Specifications :

• iPhone 5 set a precedent, with an amazing amount of technology in a remarkably thin, light design which comes in a new gold colour - has several new features, including a fingerprint scanner in the home button called Touch ID. iPhone 5s builds on that achievement with Touch ID — a fingerprint identity sensor. The sensor is 170 microns thin, 500 ppi resolution, has 360-degree readability, and scans sub-epidermal skin layers. It also has a stainless steel detection ring so it can sense when your finger is actually on the button, meaning you’ll never actually press a home button again. The Home button is now sapphire to prevent scratching.

• An A7 chip with 64-bit architecture. An even more impressive iSight camera. And ultrafast LTE wireless.

• iPhone 5s is the first 64‑bit smartphone in the world. And iOS 7 was designed with that in mind, built specifically for 64‑bit architecture. Which makes iOS 7 just as advanced as the iPhone it’s on.

• The iPhone 5S will be available in three colours - Sliver, Slate, and Gold. The iPhone 5S will cost 16GB for $199, 32GB for $299 and 64GB for $399 with a standard two-year contract.

iPhone 5c Specifications :

• The iPhone 5c will come in five colours - yellow, pink, green, blue, and white. CEO Tim Cook calls it "more fun and colourful" than any other iPhone. The iPhone 5c has a 4-inch Retina display and is powered by Apple's A6 chip. It also has an 8 megapixel camera, live photo filters and a rear cover that lights up.

• 4-inch Retina display with the same resolution (640 x 1136 pixels), Apple A6 chipset (same as iPhone 5) running iOS 7, 8MP / 1080p camera, 100Mbps LTE connectivity, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0.
