Melbourne (August 1) : Cars will soon be able to calculate whether the traffic jam you're in will make you late for a meeting, working out  or whether it might be better to park your car somewhere else and take public transport.

BMW is developing a series of mobile phone applications that will use real-time satellite navigation to monitor you around traffic jams, find you a parking spot, and give you directions from the parking station to your final destination. The new applications will be introduced when the carmaker releases its first electric car in late 2013.

Other applications will allow them to check their battery's state of charge and call up a spider map that will show the route that which destination is within range to return .The phone apps will be part of a revolution in the way drivers use their cars, BMW says.
