A study conducted by web research firm ComScore says Google websites have continued to be the top destinations for Internet users in India, while social networking websites reigned as the top online activity. 

According to the study, the Indian users spend about 25.2 percent of all online minutes on social media sites, while Google sites reached about 95 percent of the Indian netizens. The survey to be presented at a live webinar titled The Rise of India’s Digital Consumer and What it Means for the Future on August 21 shows Google websites reached. Moreover, the social networking sites' share of 25.2 percent if all online minutes is 0.8 percent higher than the previous year, the study reveals. Entertainment websites rank second with 10 percent of online minutes, up by 1.2 percent from the last year. Time spent on retail sites has grown by 0.5 percent showing gradual adoption of online shopping in India.  people aged 15 years and older accessing the Internet from a home or work computer in June 2012. Facebook, the largest social networking website, was accessed by 50.9 million visitors (83.4 percent reach), followed by Yahoo! Sites (65.5 percent reach) and Microsoft Sites (48.1 percent reach).



Local web properties also made it to the top 10 ranking, including Times Internet Limited, reaching 33.7 percent of the online population, Network 18 (29.3 percent reach), Rediff.com India Ltd (25.2 percent reach) and NIC.in (21.8 percent reach).

Among the top properties, viewers were most engaged with Facebook, with an average of nearly four hours on the site in June. For Google sites, the time was 2.5 hours. YouTube topped the Google sites for the maximum user engagement. Moreover, the social networking sites' share of 25.2 percent if all online minutes is 0.8 percent higher than the previous year, the study reveals.
