Google has added back the offline maps feature to its Maps app on Android after removing it through an update released yesterday. The reversal came as a result of immense criticism by Android users who flooded the Google Maps Google+ page and the app’s page on the Play Store with negative feedback and reviews.

Apart from offline maps, the update also removed Latitude support but also added new features such as better search and navigation and a rating system for locations. Our engineering team has been working around the clock to add a ‘Make this map area available offline’ card below the search box for easier access.”

This new update for Google Maps has yet to make its way to iOS devices. Google had earlier revealed its designs for the updated Google Maps app at the I/O event in May.
