Today, Apple releases new entry-level iMac with low-end processor. Before we talk about cheaper iMac 2014, we have to know about what actually the company announced at WWDC 14. It didn’t made any new hardware announcements, but that doesn’t mean that the company hadn’t been working on anything. The Cupertino tech giant has taken the wraps off a new budget iMac that will make the world’s leading all-in-one computing solution more affordable and cheaper for the masses.
Apple has launched a new entry-level variant of its iMac desktop computer with a slightly lower price tag but significantly weaker specifications. The new iMac will be a 21.5-inch variant with an Intel Core i5 processor (Apple hasn’t provided any specific generation, but its the latest one to believe) clocked at 1.4GHz with Turbo Boost support for up to 2.7GHz, 8GB of onboard RAM and a 500GB nard drive.
The new 21.5-inch iMac has the same slim body as the existing product range, and does not replace any current model. On the graphics front, the iMac will be powered by an Intel HD 5000 graphics chip (hence our assumption on the processor), and will feature Wi-Fi 802.11ac connectivity. The device will also sport a 4 USB 3.0 and two Thunderbolt ports, Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac, and Bluetooth 4.0 are standard across the iMac line. The new model comes with four USB 3.0 ports and two Thunderbolt ports in addition to a Gigabit Ethernet port and SDXC card slot, making its peripheral connectivity a non-issue for most part. The basic model of iMac will retail at $1,099, while the configuration options include 1TB hard disk, 1TB Fusion Drive and 256GB flash storage.
In India, the new model will cost Rs. 79,900 while the older model continues to be available for Rs. 92,900. Apple has not introduced an equivalent cheaper version of the 27-inch iMac as yet. Now the software perspective, the new imac will be powered by OS X Mavericks, with the possibility of a free upgrade to the latest OS X 10.10 Yosemite, once it becomes available later this year. Along with all new Apple prodcts, iWork and iLife app suits are available for free of cost, and includes iMovie, iPhoto, GarageBand, Pages, Numbers and Keynote.
