Moto E, Moto X and the Moto G have done well, and according to the Times of India, Motorola has sold over one million units in the past five months.
With such sales numbers, Motorola is now placed in the top-five smartphone vendors in India. According to IDC, a total of 17.59 million smartphones in the first quarter of 2014, and Nokia comes in at the fifth place having shopped seven lakh units. This is reflected by Flipkart co-founder Sachin Bansal. “We believe these sales figures should put Motorola among the top five mobile brands in the country,” Bansal told ToI.
Motorola, not surprisingly, is happy with the success of its current model and according to the publication isn’t looking at making any changes. In other words, don’t expect Motorola smartphones to be available in brick-and-mortar stores.
Motorola will however soon face some tough competition from the likes of Xiaomi, as the Chinese vendor too will sell its smartphones and accessories exclusively via Flipkart. Its first smartphone, the Xiaomi Mi3, will be available on Flipkart from July 15 onwards, priced at Rs 14,999. The flagship device features a 5-inch 1080p IPS display, a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory. It comes with 13-megapixel rear camera with dual-flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, both capable of shooting 1080p videos. The Mi3 also features dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and Wi-Fi Direct. It has a massive 3,050mAh battery as well.
