Email Bug on Outlook.com Deletes User Emails, Inboxes, Microsoft Issues Patch
Users of Outlook.com are reportedly facing serious problems due to an email bug, with issues such as lost emails and deleted inboxes. The complaints have been filed on Microsoft's official Outlook forum. The same complaints were filed in January by users and Microsoft had fixed this issue with account renaming. However it seems that the email bug was not fixed. User complaints have come to the fore again with users reporting emails missing from the same period.
Elaborating on the problem, a user stated on Microsoft's official forum: "The problem I've been having involves deleted emails. A huge section of my inbox seems to have been deleted ever since I was automatically upgraded to Outlook.com last month. My sent items have remained intact, but my inbox is now missing thousands of important emails. Strangely, not all of my inbox was deleted - I can still access the emails I received prior to around September 2012, but everything between September 2012 and March 2013 (which is when I was upgraded to Outlook.com) is missing."
Microsoft has reverted on the complaints and has released a temporary patch for users. Microsoft recently moved its entire Hotmail user base to Outlook.com. Initially the company has offered users a flexibly to move to Outlook.com but later on no option was given and the users were forced to switch their accounts.

Moreover, recharge vouchers of Rs. 22, Rs. 25 and Rs. 125 include a free 125MB data for 5 days, 15MB for seven days and 1GB for 28 days respectively.
The validity of Rs. 22 and Rs. 25
vouchers has been increased to 30 days whereas Rs. 125 recharge now
gives 90 days of validity. Airtel says in a release: "Looking at
the increasing number of mobile internet users in both urban and rural

Researchers Develop 3D-Printed Lithium-ion Microbatteries
A new technique has been successfully
developed by researchers to 3D print grain-of-sand-size Lithium-ion
microbatteries, using special inks extruded by a nozzle thinner than a
human hair. The research team comprises members from the Wyss Institute
at Harvard University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
A custom-built 3D printer
was used to print the microbatteries, with the diagram below displaying
the structure. The inks are layered in ultra-thin planes, and then
solidify to form the anode (represented in red) and the cathode (blue).
The whole is then enclosed in a glass-like case, and filled with
electrolyte solution.
The new printed 3D Lithium-ion microbatteries will be able to power tiny
devices like medical implants, flying insect-like robots, tiny cameras
and miniature microphones that can fit on a pair of glasses. The
researchers have claimed that in spite of the tiny size, the battery's
electrochemical performance is as good as commercial batteries. They
have the same charge and discharge rate, cycle life and energy densities
as normal batteries.
"We have designed a broad range of functional inks—inks with useful
chemical and electrical properties and used those inks with our
custom-built 3D printers to create precise structures with the
electronic, optical, mechanical, or biologically relevant properties
that we wanted,” says Lewis. “Not only did we demonstrate for the first
time that we can 3D-print a battery; we demonstrated it in the most
rigorous way” stated senior author Jennifer A.

Mumbai High Court Bans Online Convenience Fees For Movies
The Bombay High Court is questioning Internet-based movie ticketing companies for charging extra convenience fees in spite on an earlier directive that prevented them from doing so.
A division bench of Chief Justice Mohit
Shah and Justice M S Sanklecha has asked online ticketing companies to
respond to the complaint against a PIL filed by Sunil Lulla. The PIL
stated that "internet handling fee", "service charge" or "convenience
charge" levied by companies is unfair according to a government
resolution that states that the cost of the ticket purchased online
should be same as the ticket bought on the theater counter.
The April 4,
2013, GR forbade "cinema halls in the state, an exhibitor or owner or
agent from levying any additional charge on the online computerized
ticket". The Government of Maharashtra is rationalizing this by stating that the
government has already increased the service tax being charged for A/C
and non-A/C halls, depending upon whether they use computerized
ticketing and digital screens. The online ticket booking is also
included in this and theatres should not charge viewers any additional
cost.
EC-Council Calls For Cyber-Vaccine For More Secure Future
EC-Council,
member-based organization that certifies individuals in various
information security and e-business skills, has called for developing
cyber vaccination programmes via security coding education in a bid to
address growing concerns related to Internet security.
EC-Council President Jay Bavisi made the
appeal while addressing figures in government, industry, and academia
at the US National Security Agency's CISSE Colloquium 2013, held last
week. Bavisi said by linking the results of a recent national level
secure coding competition being conducted in India with nearly five
thousand participants, Code Uncode, to the continuing plague of
insecurity. Findings from the Code Uncode competition decisively prove
there is a serious lack of knowledge in secure coding practices that
could be a causative source of security breaches around the world.
Bavisi’s keynote address, entitled "The Cyber Security Quagmire: Finding
the Panacea”, aimed to elucidate the information security industry’s
successes, failures, and future out-of-the-box solutions that can be
implemented, using the pharmaceutical industry’s fight against diseases
as a model.

Flipkart Stops Delivering items Priced Above Rs. 10k to Customers in U.P.
Flipkart has reportedly decided not to
deliver items worth more than Rs. 10,000 to customers in Uttar Pradesh,
including cities like Ghaziabad and NOIDA. Though the company claims it
to be a “purely business oriented” move, Times of India
quotes 'insiders' as saying the online e-commerce dealer was compelled
to take the decision in the wake of growing instances of people ordering
expensive items on 'Cash on Delivery' and then declining to accept the
order. Cases of fraud which involve use of stolen or lost credit cards
have also been registered.
"It takes a minimum of 10 days to ship a
product to a customer and back to the company if it's not purchased. It
causes loss to sellers, selling through Flipkart, as their products get blocked in transit," a senior Flipkart executive told TOI.
The report goes on to say logistical
cost is added when shipping an order from the company's warehouse to a
customer. The cost includes shipping and insurance, particularly in case
of pricey products, besides state taxes. “The transportation cost is in
proportion to a products' value, hence return of any expensive product
would mean incurring greater loss than rejection of a small value order,
priced less than Rs 10,000,” the report notes.
That being said, Flipkart's revenues may take a hit as Uttar Pradesh is
among the most populous states in the country as well as the largest
consumer base for major trading companies. However, Flipkart's move is
going to to send a strong message on how to deal with 'just for fun
orders' nuisance. It may also alienate more conscientious customers, who
will instead order from other online retailers.
Yahoo Rolls Out a Fresh Look for Search
Yahoo has announced rolling out a new
look and feel to its web search. The new design gets rid of visual
clutter in the navigation bar and additional settings sidebar. The
update has deeper Bing integration and special emphasis on making images
more prominent in the search.
Yahoo
has placed the search results higher on the page and introduced a new
navigation bar at the top of the page. There's also under-the-hood
performance improvements that ensure the page loads relative fast.
Yahoo's new UI is available in the U.S. only for now, but we expect the
update to roll out in other regions pretty soon. Of late, Yahoo has
been working to improve its services with new updates and acquisitions.
It recently revamped Flickr UI, took over Tumblr and cross-platform gaming firm PlayerScale and update to Yahoo for iOS platform.
