According to a new report by IDC, one
billion smartphones were shipped in 2013. Its for the first time that a
billion smartphones have been shipped. The research firm adds that
Samsung emerged as the clear leader with nearly 31.1 percent of market
share. Global smartphone shipments reached
1.004 billion in 2013 and for the first time smartphones sales overtook
feature phones in a year.
IDC's quarterly mobile phone tracker report stated that Android OS accounted for nearly eighty percent
of all smartphones shipped. iOS was in the second place with 12.9
percent of the market share. Windows Phone OS saw an astonishing growth
of 156 percent and had 3.7 percent of market share in 2013. Nokia
constituted for 93.2 percent market share of all Windows smartphones.
Blackberry market share declined to a paltry 1.7 percent last year.
