The Telecom Secretary, Rakesh Garg, said that this project will mainly focus on wirelessly connecting those rural areas which have never seen mobile telephony, within the next 5 years. This news was revealed at the first meeting of States and the Center at Digital India Program meet.
The Government also plans to roll out mobile connectivity to at least half of these villages within the next 3 years.

This will not only help small businesses, but will also help grow cottage industries. The govt. is also planning to connect all 2,50,000 panchayats via high-speed broadband.

The Development Commissioner of Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles and flipkart.com also made a deal to provide online marketing platform to weavers. This will take small businesses to new heights by removing the middlemen, and will also lead to affordable clothes for the buyers along with higher margins for the manufacturers.

The Digital India Program will truly help the common and not-so tech-savvy businessmen in rural areas make huge strides in the fields of online marketing. If the plan goes well, then it would be possible to have access to high-speed fiber Internet even in the remote areas.
